Some light editing here but not an awful lot; I’ve taken photographs of this child’s swing a few times but this was the first time I had the advantage of such fantastic light. Not really golden hour, just yet, but with summer on our doorstep the hour or so before that can give you some really lovely light to work with.

This is quite a wide shot; I’m playing around with a 35mm lens, a focal length I don’t have much experience with at all. For most of the walk that produced this image, it was a frustrating experience; I had not realized how much I had come to see the 50mm focal length as my go to. I am also realizing I am much fonder of longer focal lengths than I realized.

The angle worked well here. I took a few photographs and kept the one with the flare in the corner. Now we have a light source, and it adds to the vibe I get from this empty little chair. The chair itself would have seemed larger in a tighter focal length: here it feels the right size, small against the framing around it but clearly our subject, just a little off from the center.
